As a new part of our business, Danish Pilot Service now participates in Sea trials for Odense Steel Shipyard, Lindø, Denmark.
We supply 3 navigators with pilot certificate covering the Danish waters, and the yard supplies their own master for the sea trials. The watch schedule make it possible to have a navigator and a pilot on duty at the same time, if it’s deemed necessary.
Prior to the sea trial the navigational team receive on board training in the vessels navigational, lifesaving and firefighting equipment. The team had more than 100 years seagoing experience and over 40 years experience as pilots.
The first ship going to sea trial was the Maas Viking with building number L217. Maas Viking is a RO/RO vessel with a GT of 29004. The vessel left the yard at Lindø on the 8/5-09 and returned the yard on the 12/5-09. This sea trial was the first in a series of 8 RO/RO vessels, in which DPS will participate. The ship was delivered to the owners on the 25. of May 2009. Next RO/RO sea trial will take place late August.
Next sea trial will be performed in early June, but this time the vessel is a bulk carrier cape size. This sea trial will be conducted in the same manner, as described above.

Danish Pilot Service pilotaged the vessel Ocean Cosmos from Skagen to Aabenraa and from Aabenraa to Skagen. Ocean Cosmos had previously suffered a break down at Tenerife due to engine trouble.
The vessel was assisted by 3 big tug boats - Danish Pilot Service had 4 pilots on this pilotage.
